October Has Arrived

Sometimes, you just don’t have to pay attention to the calendar.

Today is listed as the 28th of October. However, it has not looked at all like the season. Yes, the political signs and the Samhain decorations are bravely trying to evoke the season. But today, for the first time, it felt like October.

The leaves were wet from last night’s rain. The sky is overcast in preparation for this afternoon’s rain. The air was nippy, sharpening the appetites of the outdoor kitties. But the leaves had finally turned. Everything was correct. October has finally arrived.

The giant burning bush by the front walk has finally gone more than 50% red. There were a few pink leaves up until yesterday, but nothing that lived up to its name. Today, though, it was positively glowing, which is outstanding on such a gloomy day.

The trees on the way in to meditation group were finally breaking out into full color. It was no longer a branch here or a leaf there. The yellows, reds and oranges were predominant with the occasional touch of green and purple. The colors were beautiful, even on an overcast day. I can imagine what it will be like in full sunlight.

This week is supposed to move into the 60s temperature wise. There is usually one warm week in October. This year that warm week will partly be in November. We are still off, but we are getting closer to a normal season.
