Sometimes It’s Hard to Feel Spiritual

Sometimes, it’s hard to feel spiritual.

Today started out well. The relatives in Florida are safe. I finished making the pattern for my granddaughter’s Samhain costume. The cats are all fed, and two of them were able to sun themselves on the deck without engaging in a cat fight. Then I turned on the 5 o’clock news.

I like to think well of people. I recognize that all of us humans have our foibles, and that cats are the superior race. I like to think that we learn from our mistakes, that we grow with experience, and that we acquire wisdom and mellowness as we age. Sometimes I am disabused of these notions. Today was one of those days.

One of my cousins has been enormously upset over the presidential race this year. She recognizes certain sociopathic behaviors in one of the candidates that her ex-husband apparently exhibited. She has become a news junkie, addicted to every form of media that she can find. So, tonight, I called her, and found her positively giddy with laughter. (I almost thought she was hysterical, but really it was the laughter of disbelief.) We agreed that we had been treated to a reenactment of many of the men from our childhood – the reason why there was a woman’s movement in the first place. It never hurts to be reminded, and it gave us a goal.

We are going to do everything in our power to help Hillary win. We realize that many people we know don’t “like” Hillary. However, we are not voting for a best friend. We are voting for the adult in the room, the one who has a firm grip on sanity.

It was hard to be spiritual today. But we did find the power of focused intent.

Go vote, my friends.
